I watched this interview, and if you watch it too, pay attention to the body language
of the right wing talkshow host. The inappropriate smiling is always a clue. Like a seedy car salesman, twisting words and making up shit to scare you. Meanwhile, the Congressman expresses very appropriate emotions. He is clearly exasperated (aren't we all) with these wing nuts scaring people and saying things that have no basis in reality. (government encouraged euthanasia my ass! Representative Boner should be thrown out of the House for that remark. I think the AARP should picket his house and flood him with letters for scaring them, needlessly. I'm glad he is not in my party. Imbecile.

For the record, I don't have a living will yet, but when Dad was dying of cancer, he BEGGED us to get him one. He didn't want to linger, suffering, while people stuck tubes in him, when he had no quality of life. This is what we are talking about. And NO, the elderly can't just surf the net and fill one out, like this idiot talk show hosts claims people should do. They need to talk with THEIR DOCTOR and make decisions when they are able to comprehend their own condition, and determine for themselves what they want to do. And THAT IS WHAT THIS BILL DOES.


Sheesh. I can't stand it anymore. WAKE UP PEOPLE. Don't get your news from these flaming idiot talk show hosts. And pay no attention to the Boners and Virginia Foxx's who are doing their country a BIG disservice by their outright lies. Scaring seniors is wrong.

UPDATE: If you hear this crazy rumor about Page 425 of the Health care bill mandating counseling every 5 years to end your suffering... don't believe it.

I guess it would be too much to ask to here responsible reporting on the subject instead of Republican fear mongering and "Scare Granny" tactics. My aunt called in a panic asking if old people would be denied coverage and left to die. Of course she watches a lot of Faux News. It's sad.

Back after a wee bit of hiatus here. So much going on. Watched the news this morning and thought...could you just see Sarah Palin addressing the G-8 Summit? (Shudder to think about it....all those 'You betcha's!')

It's so great that we have a literate, intelligent President. He's just so articulate and likeable...and SMART. It is important to give a good impression on the World Stage.

I don't cringe when I see him like I did George Bush. I felt that at any moment some stupid Bushism would come out of his mouth, or he would do something off the wall like when he groped the German Chancellor.

I admit I did feel bad when his father, George H.W. Bush threw up on the Japanese Prime Minister way back when, but that just couldn't be helped. Bad Sushi.

He hit it out of the park.

I am so glad we have such a great President. I knew he wouldn't let me down. His speech showed respect, intellect, humor, humility, appreciation, and graciousness. I would wager that it is one of the best speeches that place has ever heard. (Surely better than George Bush's in 2001, which amounted to little more than a pandering, self serving advertisement for his Faith Based programs.)

As for the people who booed at the very beginning or boycotted or showed any other kind of disrespect.... well it says more about what kind of a person YOU are than him.

Way to go President Obama! You rose way above the occasion. Loved the part about the Golden Rule. Simple, yet effective. Even a Pope could understand it...

Touching The Queen? She touched first!

Since when did conservatives start caring about diplomacy, much less obscure rules of diplomatic decorum? I seem to remember these same bloggers defending a previous president who (while not actively pissing off the entire world with his policies and rhetoric), took the time to give the Chancellor of Germany an awkward neck massage, told the Pope he gave an "awesome speech", and, after implying that the Queen was over 200 years old, turned around and winked at her. Indeed, I'm pretty sure that these same bloggers would have lept to George Bush's defense if he had tackled the Queen 'Naked Gun' style or belched in her face.

The Sudden Right Wing Obsession with Diplomatic Protocol.

I came across this post responding to the Right wingnuts' determination to find ways to make the Obama's look bad on their first oversea trip. The First Lady was a big hit in Europe... with her genuine warmth and great ability to connect with people. As usual the loons on the Right are so pissed at the Obama's popularity, they resort to sneering and sniping. As for protocol...nothing will ever top W's father--George H.W. Bush--who threw up on the Japanese Minister. (video here, if you can stomach it)

Just to be on the Safe Side

Justice Roberts got a second shot at administering the oath of office to Pres. Obama. I'm glad the men took the time to get it right. Now we won't have to listen to the right wingnuts yammering for the next four years that the first oath wasn't exactly right, so he really isn't President.


I haven't had the chance to write about how incredible the whole inauguration was. The outpouring of love and hope and emotions from the folks who went to Washington. The videos we saw of people all over the world, who are pulling for America.

Transparency in government, no torturing of people, ending the war in Iraq, leading by example on the environment, getting serious about new energy resources, the inclusion of people with differing opinions, putting Science back in the forefront--- all of these things are a 180 degree turn from what we have endured over the past 8 years. The swaggering cowboy is gone and in his place is a cool headed, intelligent, well spoken man who has a great ability to bring people together.

And I've heard several people this week who keep parroting the phrase.... "I didn't vote for him... but I hope he succeeds..." A few were sincere in their comments, but others were self serving. What came through loud and clear is they really want someone to fix this country's problems so their stocks will get out of the tank. So they will have a retirement. So they can drive a fancy car and fill it with gas. So their kids can actually afford to go to college someday.
So we don't end up in a soup line.

These are typically the same folks who whine about "libruls" who spend too much money, and socialists who want the government to take care of everything. To this I say, George Bush left us with over a Trillion dollars in debt....and spent hundreds of millions of your money to buy up Wall Street.

DUH.

Yeah, you want this new guy to succeed.

Your future depends on it.

Yes We Can

It's taken a day or two just to sink in. I can quit whistling everytime I hear an attack ad on the TV. I can listen to the radio from across the room again without worrying about jumping up to shut it off because I can't listen to those horrible commercials. We are free.... free at last. Free from the fake outrage and vicious smears. Free from incessant robo-calls and fear mongering emails. It's over. We won.

Hope trumped fear. I feel I can breathe again.

Hard to believe that two weeks ago all the right wingers cared about was making an issue out of "lipstick on a pig." Yet another distraction from the real issues. (Who can forget McCain's campaign advisor saying the election was no longer ABOUT issues?)


Obama is so genuine in this clip. Funny, animated, yet clearly showing a grasp of what is going on and why we need change in this country--- particularly at the end... in the last minute or so, when he talked about the economy. He certainly was not raving about how "fundamentally sound" it is,(snark),like McCain has repeated over and over again.

Have we learned nothing from 8 long years with Bush? Repeating something doesn't necessarily make it true.
